Hungary: Baby delivered from brain-dead mother
The University of Debrecen said Wednesday that some of the mother's organs — her heart, liver, kidneys and pancreas — were donated to four recipients two days after the delivery.
The mother suffered a stroke when she was 15 weeks pregnant. The baby was delivered via cesarean section this summer at 27 weeks, weighing 1.4 kilograms (3 pounds, 1.8 ounces).
The university in eastern Hungary said "the child is healthy and developing normally." It did not give the child's gender or exact birth date.
The baby's relatives have declined to go public; Hungarian laws shield the identity of organ donors and recipients.
