Wole Soyinka Condemns Women Groups Keeping Mum on Clara Chime's Abuse

Wole Soyinka Condemns Women Groups Keeping Mum in Clara Chime's AbuseProfessor Wole Soyinka made a speech at an event in Lagos, on November 26, 2013, where women advocated for the enactment of laws to protect women and children from violence and abuse.
The Nobel Laureate condemned the use of religious tenets as excuses for child marriage. He described the act as “blasphemous”.
He also condemned the total silence of women groups during the ordeal of the first lady of Enugu State, Clara Chime.
Mrs. Chime was detained by her husband, the Governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime for 4 months with the assistance of the police and State Security Services until the situation went public. Mrs. Chime has since separated from her husband and relocated to Port Harcourt. Recent reports allege that the Enugu First Lady is currently receiving treatment in the U.K.
